DAMASCUS– Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, stressed the Syrian government’s hard efforts to meet the essential humanitarian needs of Syrian citizens who were forced to leave their houses due to the criminal practices of the armed terrorist groups.
Receiving the credentials of Tareq al-Kurdi as the Director of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Syria, Mikdad appreciated the UNHCR effort in this regard.
Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister hailed the stance of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees at the Security Council recently which warned against intervention in the Syrian internal affairs and the imposition of buffer or no-fly zones.
In turn, al-Kurdi stressed the UNHCR full cooperation and coordination with the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.
He referred to Syria’s hospitality in dealing with problems of the refugees on its territories over the years, particularly the Iraqi refugees.
The two sides reviewed the Commission’s activities in Syrian and means of boosting cooperation between the Syrian government and the High Commissioner for Refugees.
