The Syrian foreign ministry says Turkey has opened its borders and airports for Syria-bound terrorists, calling it a flagrant violation of the international law.

The ministry made the remarks on Sunday in two letters addressed to the UN Security Council and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Syrian news agency Sana reported.

The ministry said Syria’s northern neighbor allowed “thousands of al-Qaeda, Takfiri, and Wahhabi terrorists” to cross the border in order to “kill innocent Syrians, blow up their properties, and spread chaos and destruction.”

Turkey is home to the headquarters of the self-proclaimed Free Syrian Army and hosts many meetings of foreign-backed insurgent groups fighting against Damascus.

“The Turkish government was not only satisfied at hosting the organizations hostile to Syria, which came from Arab and different countries or supplying them with weapons and money, but it also opened camps to train the terrorists, receive and host them,” the ministry noted.

It also accused Ankara of receiving hundreds of tons of weapons from different states and supplying them to insurgents in Syria.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals.

Damascus also says the insurgents are supported by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on August 1 that the country is engaged in a “crucial and heroic” battle that will determine the destiny of the nation.
