German Journalist: West-led Armed Opposition in Syria will Fail

TEHRAN (FNA)- German journalist and magazine editor Manuel Ochsenreiter believes that the Western powers along with the regional countries are backing and financing terrorists and insurgents in Syria, because each of them have certain interests linked to the disintegration of the Syrian government and the removal from power of President Bashar Assad.

He also says that these countries are supporting such dangerous groups as Al-Qaeda to destabilize Syria and fight the Syrian army at the expense of the lives of innocent Syrian citizens whose only crime is supporting their government.

“These groups like Al-Qaeda, but also other armed militias that have infiltrated Syria during the course of the past year now fight the proxy war of the big powers. For Ankara, Riyadh, Washington or Doha it is much more convenient and also cheaper to use (or abuse) those insurgents instead of having a conventional war against Damascus. You have always a supply of men and arms. You just have to pay and to give support by means of intelligence, logistics and training,” said Ochsenreiter in an interview with Fars News Agency.

Manuel Ochsenreiter is the chief editor of the German monthly magazine ZUERST and contributes to other journals and magazines in Germany, as well. He spent a few weeks in Syria last year and dispatched special reports of the Battle of Damascus and other developments in the war-hit country.  Continue reading

The Syria Endgame: Strategic Stage in the Pentagon’s Covert War on Iran

By Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya

Since the kindling of the conflict inside Syria in 2011, it was recognized, by friend and foe alike, that the events in that country were tied to a game plan that ultimately targets Iran, Syria’s number one ally. [1] De-linking Syria from Iran and unhinging the Resistance Bloc that Damascus and Tehran have formed has been one of the objectives of the foreign-supported anti-government militias inside Syria. Such a schism between Damascus and Tehran would change the Middle East’s strategic balance in favour of the US and Israel.

If  this cannot be accomplished, however, then crippling Syria to effectively prevent it from providing Iran any form of diplomatic, political, economic, and military support in the face of common threats has been a primary objective. Preventing any continued cooperation between the two republics has been a strategic goal. This includes preventing the Iran-Iraq-Syria energy terminal from being built and ending the military pact between the two partners.

All Options are Aimed at Neutralizing Syria

Regime change in Damascus is not the only or main way for the US and its allies to prevent Syria from standing with Iran. Destabilizing Syria and neutralizing it as a failed and divided state is the key. Sectarian fighting is not a haphazard outcome of the instability in Syria, but an assisted project that the US and its allies have steadily fomented with a clear intent to balkanize the Syrian Arab Republic. Regionally, Israel above all other states has a major stake in securing this outcome. The Israelis actually have several publicly available documents, including the Yinon Plan, which outline that the destruction of Syria into a series of smaller sectarian states is one of their strategic objectives. So do American military planners. Continue reading

Patriot missiles arrive in Turkey

The first parts of Patriot air defence missile systems have been delivered to Turkey, The Turkish Weekly reports. According to the newspaper, the mounting of the systems on the Syrian border is planned for the beginning of 2013.

Servicemen from Germany and the Netherlands arrived in Turkey at the same time with Patriot components. They will be accommodated at a Turkish military base.

In November Turkey requested NATO to provide it with Patriot missiles, allegedly to defend its air space against any Syrian attack. The NATO Council complied with Turkey’s request at the beginning of December. Continue reading

Syria rebels behind Aqrab massacre, not Assad forces

The red building is the one rebels held civilians prisoner. The building appears intact five days after they claimed it was destroyed.

A British media report has revealed that anti-Syrian government rebels are responsible for the feared massacre of hundreds of civilians in the town of Aqrab rather than the government forces.

The eye-witness accounts in the Channel 4 report aired on Friday also suggest the rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad government forces are not Syrian freedom fighters as propagated by western-affiliated media and are rather terrorists exported to the Middle Eastern country to topple Assad.

According to rebels’ propaganda websites, on December 2 they entered Aqrab where government forces imprisoned hundreds of their own supporters in a large building in the city and later completely destroyed it in an attack that killed up to 250 civilians.

However, eye-witnesses who had managed to escape the town told Channel 4 correspondent Alex Johnson that “up to 500 were held prisoners by rebels after the attack.”

The report quoted witnesses as saying that they remained imprisoned without food or water for nine days until Tuesday December 11 when they “described three truckloads of prisoners [which took them] to a nearby village and safety.”

“A fourth truck left but never made it to the village” the report added. “That truck went to the rebel-held al-Houla.”  Continue reading

A “humanitarian intervention” in Syria – 150 years ago

[Editor’s note: This article is also available in FRENCH and SPANISH ]

A humanitarian intervention in Syria? Humanitarian grounds had already been used in 1860 … precisely by France as a pretext to intervene militarily in Syria, then an Ottoman province. In this article, Geneva University scholar Pascal Herren lays bare the true intentions of France under Napoleon III, which were every bit as disreputable as those pursued under Sarkozy or Hollande. He also brings to light the dire consequences that befell the peoples of the region.

On 16 August 1860, a French expeditionary force landed in Beirut. According to Napoleon III, the French military were going to “restore order” in Syria, then an Ottoman province. Regarded today as the first example of “the right to intervene on humanitarian grounds”, the military intervention actually served to increase France’s economic stranglehold in the region.

A humanitarian intervention in Syria is recurrently demanded; it should put an end to the suffering which the population has been exposed to since 2011 due to the struggles between the regime and the armed opposition. The main responsibility for these fights is attributed – rightly or wrongly – to the government.

So, this relief effort would involve overthrowing the current regime. It is suspected to have indirectly started several months ago, when the insurgents were armed and also agents and foreign troops were deployed into the area. However, the use of force on the territory of a foreign country without the consent of the competent authorities contradicts the principle of state sovereignty enshrined in the UN Charter. Use of force between states is prohibited with the exception of the case of legitimate defense or a joint action decided by the Security Council. Continue reading

The former Spanish officer further acknowledged that besides the training he also took part in the fighting along with the armed groups in Syria.

// Is Syrian state losing ground ?

Famous Lebanese analyst, Qhalib Qandil discussed the subject of micro Farsnews journalist.
“Syrian State proved invincible army with a particularly efficient. Rumors of an imminent war against Syria is made to raise the moral of militiamen in total defeat. Issue of chemical weapons is also part of the same logic that leads hawkish clan for 10 years in western his stance against Iran. ” The axis of the resistance supporting Assad has lost none of his belief that Syria is seeing a battle that sets the future of the region. Iran will continue to support Hezbollah Damascus as China and Russia who are determined not to lose further ground against the Western camp “” Weakened by years of wars irectes, the United States are at the point of conduct their war indirectly. and this is what is happening in Syria. if the West had been attacking the Syrian state, he would have done a long time “. Asked about the state is now the Syrian people Qandil said:” I regularly travels in Syria and in various regions . the Syrians who are these militiamen who are in their country? Chechen fighters are those who slaughter and kill and do not even speak a word of Arabic and how these people could bring democracy?! the reality is that the Syrians are aware that outside opposition to Assad is funded by Qatar and Saudi Arabia and the Syrian people who have linked to the Muslim Brotherhood are not worth more “” and why this continued opposition she has rejected dialogue with the Syrian government? ‘…. “With a public well lit, the Syrian army will recover within a few weeks and lost places rein in terrorists. Dialogue between national forces and begin the election will be released and Syria the head-this test. ”
