Russia not afraid of NATO expansion

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he does not fear the enlargement of NATO. “We have no fear – I do not have and no one else should have this either. Yet we have to bear the realities in mind,” Putin said in a Q&A session on Thursday. He called for taking a sober view of the situation concerning the further enlargement of the alliance. “We will choke them all. What are you afraid of?” Putin said while answering a question to the expansion of NATO.

President Putin’s annual broadcast Q&A session: LIVE UPDATES

NATO’s Rasmussen pledged on Wednesday to step up patrols and boost its military presence along the alliance’s eastern border in Europe, citing Russia’s alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis. “We will have more planes in the air, more ships on the water, and more readiness on the land,” Rasmussen said in Brussels.

This move has come as another sign that the alliance was tightening its grip on Eastern Europe where it is already running air-policing and surveillance missions over Poland, Romania and the Baltic trio.

NATO member states earlier released separate announcements saying they were suspending military cooperation with Russia after Crimean residents voted overwhelmingly to join Russia in a referendum, which the West considers illegitimate and Russia says is in line with the UN charter and the international law.

According to Russian experts, the suspension of military cooperation with NATO will do no harm to Russian interests or security.

Russia has vociferously opposed any further eastward expansion by NATO, particularly by former Soviet republics on its borders. Vladimir Putin said last week Moscow was open to further cooperation with NATO, but remained opposed to the organization’s presence in historic Russian territories.

Presidential race in Ukraine proceeding in absolutely unacceptable forms; if this continues, we will be unable to recognize elections – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the current election campaign in Ukraine has unacceptable forms, and if it continues to take place in such forms, the Russian authorities will not be able to recognize the legitimacy of Ukraine’s upcoming presidential polls. “The presidential race is proceeding in absolutely unacceptable forms. If it continues like this, we certainly will be unable to recognize the events that will follow May 25 [the Ukrainian presidential elections] as legitimate,” Putin said during his annual Q&A session on Thursday.

Oil and Gas find offshore Syria motive for US Israeli mercenary uprising and bloodshed in Syria

US GEOPOLITICAL TERRORISM PLATFORM

US GEOPOLITICAL TERRORISM PLATFORM

Why are US Israeli mercenaries in Syria?  Same reason why the US illegally attacked Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya and Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian civilian population   – oil and gas.  The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the Levant Basin, which covers Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and Palestine, contains around 122 trillion cubic feet of gas and at least 1.7 billion barrels of oil.

The Israeli government plans to build a floating liquefied natural gas terminal with a sea-based defense radar system off its Mediterranean coast while forming a naval force to protect what it claims is its rich offshore gas fields. However, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and Palestine all have Levant Basin oil and gas rights.

Israel sent its Mossad and their foreign mercenaries into Syria to help the US and its mercenaries start a bloody uprising to take from Syria its oil and gas rights in the Levant Basin. Israel attacked Palestine and is grabbing land from them to deny them their oil and gas rights in the Levant Basin. The people of Palestine are being slaughtered to extinction (genocide) because of the oil and gas in the Levant Basin.

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that Israel is “ignoring the fact that according to the maps the deposit extends into Lebanese waters,”  Lebanese Energy Minister Gebran Bassil said June 17 his country “will not allow Israel or any company working for Israeli interests to take any amount of our gas that is falling in our zone.” He said Noble was warned not to work close to Lebanon’s economic zone. Struggle over the Middle East: Gas Ranks First

[ Editor’s note: This article is also available in FrenchItalianArabicGermanRussianSpanish ]

by Imad Fawzi Shueibi (April 17th 2012)

The media and military attack against Syria is directly related to the global competition for energy, as explained by Professor Imad Shuebi in this masterful article. At a time when the euro area threatens to collapse, where an acute economic crisis has led the U.S. into a debt of up to 14 940 billion, and where their influence is dwindling in the face of the emerging BRICS powers, it becomes clear that the key to economic success and political domination lies mainly in the control of the energy source of the century: gas. It is because she is at the heart of the most colossal gas reserves in the world that Syria is being targeted. The wars of the last century were fought for oil, but a new era has dawned, that of wars for gas.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russians began to feel that the struggle for armament has exhausted them, especially in the absence of the necessary energy sources needed by any industrial country. The American presence in the oil zones for some decades enabled them to grow and have control over the international political decision without much struggle. Therefore, the Russians turned towards energy sources, be them oil or gas. Since the international apportionment does not bear much competition in oil sectors, Moscow sought to manipulate gas in the areas of gas production, transporting or marketing on a large scale.

The starting point was in 1995 when Putin set the strategy of Gasprom Co. to move within the area in which gas exists starting from Russia through Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran (for marketing) and the Middle East. Certainly, the projects of the Nord Stream and South Stream will be a historical order of merit/insignia given to Vladimir Putin for his efforts in bringing Russia back to the International arena and for tightening the grip on the European economy which will depend, for decades, on gas as an alternative for oil or depend on gas as well as oil, yet with prioritizing the first; i.e., gas. At this point, it was a must for Washington to hasten to create its peer project; Nabucco, to compete against the Russian project as to gain an international apportionment on the basis of which the next century will be politically and strategically determined. Russia will continue to develop cooperation with Syria

Russia has no plans to give up trade and economic cooperation with Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry officials said, commenting on the possibility of giving a credit to Damascus.

“The unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria by a number of countries can’t serve as a ground for closing down Russian-Syrian economic programmes”, the document points out.

Another session of the permanent Russian-Syrian commission on trade, economic, and also scientific and technical cooperation took place in Moscow this May, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

This cooperation covers oil-and-gas field, energy sector, transport, and agriculture.

“Financial and investment cooperation, including the allocation of credits, is not ruled out either”, Russia’s Foreign Ministry stresses in its commentary. Continue reading

Iran fully prepared to give firm response to aggression: Ambassador

Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut has scoffed at the Israeli regime’s war rhetoric against Iran, saying that the Islamic Republic is fully prepared to give a firm response to any aggression.

“The Zionist regime [Israel] is not in a position to attack our country. Iran is at the highest level of preparedness to give a firm response to any aggression and assault against its territorial integrity,” Ghazanfar Roknabadi said in a meeting with the new Head of Lebanon’s Journalists Union, Elias Aoun, IRNA reported on Friday.

Roknabadi added that Iran’s policy in Lebanon is to support the country’s stability, security, solidarity reconstruction, and peaceful coexistence of all political groups in Lebanon.

He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to support Lebanon in line with that policy.
The United States and Israel have repeatedly threatened Iran with a military option in a bid to force the Islamic Republic to halt its nuclear energy program, which Washington and Tel Aviv claim to have a military component.

Iran rejects the allegations of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes

israel Deploys Nuclear Weapons on German-Built Submarines

A German shipyard has already built three submarines for Israel, and three more are planned. Now SPIEGEL has learned that Israel is arming the submarines with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles. The German government has known about Israel’s nuclear weapons program for decades, despite its official denials.

Germany is helping Israel to develop its military nuclear capabilities, SPIEGEL has learned. According to extensive research carried out by the magazine, Israel is equipping submarines that were built in the northern German city of Kiel and largely paid for by the German government with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles. The missiles can be launched using a previously secret hydraulic ejection system. Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak told SPIEGEL that Germans should be “proud” that they have secured the existence of the state of Israel “for many years.”

In the past, the German government has always stuck to the position that it is unaware of nuclear weapons being deployed on the vessels. Now, however, former high-ranking officials from the German Defense Ministry, including former State Secretary Lothar Rühl and former chief of the planning staff Hans Rühle, have told SPIEGEL that they had always assumed that Israel would deploy nuclear weapons on the submarines. Rühl had even discussed the issue with the military in Tel Aviv.

Israel has a policy of not commenting officially on its nuclear weapons program. Documents from the archives of the German Foreign Ministry make it clear, however, that the German government has known about the program since 1961. The last discussion for which there is evidence took place in 1977, when then-Chancellor Helmut Schmidt spoke to then-Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan about the issue.

The submarines are built by the German shipyard HDW in Kiel. Three submarines have already been delivered to Israel, and three more will be delivered by 2017. In addition, Israel is considering ordering its seventh, eighth and ninth submarines from Germany.

The German government recently signed the contract for the delivery of the sixth vessel. According to information obtained by SPIEGEL, Chancellor Angela Merkel made substantial concessions to the Israelis. Not only is Berlin financing one-third of the cost of the submarine, around €135 million ($168 million), but it is also allowing Israel to defer its payment until 2015.

Merkel had tied the delivery of the sixth submarine to a number of conditions, including a demand that Israel stop its expansionist settlement policy and allow the completion of a sewage treatment plant in the Gaza Strip, which is partially financed with German money. So far, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met none of the terms.

Check back on SPIEGEL International on Monday for the full English-language version of SPIEGEL’s cover story on Germany’s cooperation with Israel over its submarine program.

Putin+Merkel: No to Syrian invasion & Euro collapse

Vladimir Putin has vowed to do what he can to prevent Syria from sliding into civil war, but repeated his stance that it’s important not to take sides in the conflict. The comments came as the Russian President and the German Chancellor met in Berlin, with Putin on his first series of short visits abroad since he returned to the top job last month. A Portrait of False Activism and Deceptive Democracy: Aung San Suu Kyi Receives Fascist Seal of Approval

British FM William Hague awards her the “Chatham House Prize”

In the first visit to Myanmar by a British foreign minister in 56 years — since the British were expelled from the nation, then called Burma after its declaration of independence in 1956 — William Hague took it upon himself to present “democracy icon” Aung San Suu Kyi with the “Chatham House Prize.”

Hague hands Suu Kyi the “Chatham House Prize.” Nothing quite says “democracy promotion” like a prize from an organization consisting of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BP, Exxon, Chevron, BAE, Boeing, Lockheed, and many more. This is just the latest in a long line of self-aggrandizing stunts the global elite pull to lend themselves otherwise non-existent legitimacy.

The “Chatham House Prize” is given annually to a “statesperson who is deemed by Chatham House members to have made the most significant contribution to the improvement of international relations in the previous year.” The decision process is conducted by research teams and the Chatham House’s presidents who are currently John MajorPatricia Scotland, and none other than Paddy Ashdown, who just finished defiling the spirit of innovation and pragmatism at the TED Talks with his sales pitch for global governance run by the corporate-financier elite.

The prize is given to those “deemed by Chatham House members” to have made contributions to the improvement of “international relations.” The Chatham House membership is described as “individuals, companies and organizations who share a deep interest in international affairs, independent thinking and debate.” Their membership includes, “academics, diplomats, the media, NGOs, politicians, policy-makers, researchers and business people.” Continue reading
