About 400 elite mercenaries from the notorious US private security firm Academi (formerly Blackwater) are taking part in the Ukrainian military operation against anti-government protesters in southeastern regions of the country, German media reports.

The Bild am Sonntag newspaper, citing a source in intelligence circles, wrote Sunday that Academi employees are involved in the Kiev military crackdown on pro-autonomy activists in near the town of Slavyansk, in the Donetsk region.

On April 29, German Intelligence Service (BND) informed Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government about the mercenaries’ participation in the operation, the paper said, RIA Novosti reported. It is not clear who commands the private military contractors and pays for their services, however.

US Defense Contractors Training Syrian Rebels to Handle Chemical Weapons

The US-funded training supposedly aimed at teaching rebels to secure chemical weapons stockpiles

The US and some of its European allies “are using defense contractors to train Syrian rebels on how to secure chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria,” according to “a senior US official and several senior diplomats,” CNN reports.

The US-funded training is going on inside Syria, as well as in neighboring Turkey and Jordan and “involves how to monitor and secure stockpiles and handle weapons sites and materials,” according to CNN.

Last week, Washington began warning about the possibility that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad might use his chemical weapons stockpiles against the armed rebellion trying to overthrow his regime.

But top Syrian officials vehemently denied this would ever happen, and it appeared obvious that US officials were less concerned with Assad’s unleashing the chemical weapons, and more concerned with the possibility that Islamic jihadists fighting on behalf of the Syrian opposition might get their hands on them.

Islamic extremists make up the great bulk of Syria’s rebel fighters, and this is widely acknowledged by official Washington. Indeed, the State Department recently designated Jabhat al-Nusra, one of the most prominent Syrian rebel factions, as a Global Terrorist organization.

The US decision to hire unaccountable defense contractors to train Syrian rebels to handle stockpiles of chemical weapons seems dangerously irresponsible in the extreme, especially considering how inept Washington has so far been at making sure only trustworthy, secular rebels – to the extent they exist – receive their aid and the weapons that allies in the Gulf Arab states have been providing.

It also feeds accusations that the Syrian Foreign Ministry recently made that the US is working to frame the Syrian regime as having used or prepared for chemical warfare.

“The U.S. administration has consistently worked over the past year to launch a campaign of allegations on the possibility that Syria could use chemical weapons during the current crisis,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry wrote in letters to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

“What raises concerns about this news circulated by the media is our serious fear that some of the countries backing terrorism and terrorists might provide the armed terrorist groups with chemical weapons and claim that it was the Syrian government that used the weapons,” the letters said. Armed rebels commit horrific crimes against civilians: Syria

The Syrian government says the rebel armed groups backed and funded by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey are committing “horrific crimes” against civilians in the capital, Damascus, and the city of Aleppo.

In two letters addressed to the head of the UN Security Council and the UN secretary general, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the rebels backed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey are using civilians in Aleppo as human shields, and killing anyone who does not support their crimes.

A large number of mercenaries are gathered in Aleppo, whose entry to the city has been facilitated by Turkey, the letters pointed out.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry further denounced the Western states’ reluctance to urge armed opposition groups to end their attacks in the country.  Continue reading

Foreign militants join armed gangs in Syria: Western media

Members of an armed gang in Syria

Western media say a number of foreign militants have joined armed gangs fighting against the Syrian government, while clashes continue between Syrian security forces and rebels.

According to Agence France Presse (AFP) and the CNN, insurgents have entered the Syrian territory from several Arab countries and are now at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.

The Western news outlets say the foreign militants are mainly from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya and the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, fighting between armed groups and the Syrian army continues in the northwestern city of Aleppo.

In the capital, Damascus, however, calm has been restored and reports say fighting is underway mainly in the al-Tal suburb of the city.

On Wednesday, Syrian forces clashed with armed gangs in the southwestern city of Dara’a, about 114 kilometers (70 miles) south of the capital, and several nearby villages.

There were also reports of sporadic clashes between Syrian troops and rebels in the western city of Homs on Tuesday.  Continue reading

American сannibalism in Syria

By Adrian Salbuchi for RT

Armed Syrian men, members of the rebel Free Syrian

Resolutions calling on Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to step down, the West and its allies have gone ballistic in their desire of regime change.

After February’s veto, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov asked US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, “What’s the endgame?”, to which she replied: “The endgame in the absence of us acting together as the international community, I fear, is civil war.”

She wasn’t kidding either, because the US and its allies are doing exactly that: promoting civil war as official policy towards Syria. Foreign Policy (a Washington Post publication) reports on 28th March that Senators John McCain (Republican from Arizona) and “five like-minded lawmakers” submitted a new resolution on Syria before Congress, calling for Congressional “support for arming the opposition against the regime of Bashar al Assad”.   The resolution stops short of calling for direct US military intervention, which McCain openly and fully supports, as does Senator Joe Lieberman from Connecticut.

Their goal is to create a consensus on increasing US support for the Syrian opposition, around which US lawmakers can rally.  So far, in addition to McCain and Lieberman, the resolution is backed by Republican Senators Lindsey Graham (South Carolina), Jon Kyl (Arizona), Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire) and John Hoeven (North Dakota).  The very powerful pro-Israel lobby AIPAC – American Israeli Public Affairs Committee – couldn’t be happier…

The resolution “supports calls by Arab leaders to provide the people of Syria with the means to defend themselves against Bashar al-Assad and his forces, including through the provision of weapons and other material support, and calls on President Obama to work closely with regional partners to implement these efforts effectively.”

It also urges Obama to support the so-called “Friends of the Syrian People” contact group of Arab states which agreed in a meeting in Istanbul on Sunday to provide monthly funding worth several million dollars to pay a “salary” to opposition fighters in Syria and encourage more defections from President Bashar Assad’s army.

As reported by the Associated Press, “This money is the first formal international support for the rebels, and officials attending the “Friends of Syria” conference said the substantial funds would also probably be used to purchase weapons on the black market for the rebel Free Syria Army.”

The message is therefore quite clear for all to understand: once again, as in the case of Libya last year, the US and its client states in the Middle East are paying huge amounts of money to mercenary armies – including “buying weapons on the black market for the rebel Free Syria army” – in order to overthrow the legal government of a sovereign country, this time, Syria.

Using Orwellian newspeak, Hilary Clinton referred to these millions of dollars as “humanitarian aid to Syria”.  So far, Syrian “freedom fighters” have received an official total of $25 million in such “humanitarian aid”, and only God knows how many millions more in black money are being funneled to local criminals, thugs and mercenaries inside Syria from secret CIA, MI6 and Mossad organized crime coffers, to be used for such black market arms purchases.

Clearly, in war and in peace, under today’s global power system, money talks… and it does so very loudly!   “Mr. Money is indeed a powerful Lord!” 16th Century Spanish poet Francisco de Quevedo once said.  Five centuries later, nothing new under the sun…

The foreign ministers and top officials from more than 80 nations and international organizations gathered in Istanbul for the “Friends of Syria” meeting warned Assad that “he has little time left to comply with demands he stop his yearlong slaughter of his own citizens”.

Naturally, these same “Friends of…” know full well that even worse violence has been raging for a longer period of time in Egypt, Bahrain and other US-UK client states, but they and the Western mainstream media prefer not to unduly disturb global public opinion with that…

With their accustomed hypocrisy, the US, UK and their allies are the ones who get to decide who are the “bad guys” – Syria and Iran today, Iraq and Libya yesterday – and who are the “good guys” in the region, either because they are nicely pro-Israel, like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, or because they house the US Fifth Fleet like Bahrain and are thus allowed to continue torturing and beating their own people, while Obama, Clinton, Cameron and Sarkozy look the other way.

A front-page editorial in the official Al-Baath newspaper described the Istanbul meeting as a “regional and international scramble to search for ways to kill more Syrians, sabotage their society and state, and move toward the broad objective of weakening Syria.”

Under the money game, together with US “aid”, funds are also being contributed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait for distribution to “good guy terrorists” through the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC).

In today’s upside-down world, we see the US, UK, France, Israel, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia all claiming to be waging a “global war on terror”, the roots of which can to a great extent be directly or indirectly traced back to these very countries, whilst at the same time they openly and blatantly admit to using the grossest and vilest State-sponsored terrorism tactics by financing, training, arming and supporting mercenary armies inside those very same enemy countries.

Such is US and Allied hypocrisy that they feel it’s OK to use exactly the same tactics against Syria, Libya and Iran that they accuse the “terrorists” of using against them.

Alas!  An old adage says that when a civilized man captures a primitive cannibal, he may punish him in any way he pleases except…he may not eat him!

Mossad, CIA and Xe (Blackwater) operate in Syria

A security operation in Homs reveals Mossad, CIA and Blackwater are involved in the military violence in this part of Syria, as over 700 Arab and Western gunmen and Israeli, American and European-made weapons were detained in Baba Amr district.

Syrian security forces got yet further proof of Western powers’ military involvement in Syria’s internal conflict, reports Al-Manar, a news agency, affiliated with Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based militant group and political party.

Around 700 gunmen were recently arrested in the former rebel stronghold of Babar Amr.

“The captured gunmen held Arab nationalities, including Gulf, Iraqi, and Lebanese. Among them were also Qatari intelligence agents and non-Arab fighters from Afghanistan, Turkey, and some European countries like France,” the agency quotes Syrian expert in strategic affairs Salim Harba as saying.
Harba also confirmed to the agency that “a coordination office was established in Qatar under American-Gulf sponsorship. The office includes American, French, and Gulf – specifically from Qatar and Saudi Arabia – intelligence agents, as well as CIA, Mossad, and Xe (fomely kmown as Blackwater) agents and members of the Syrian Transitional Council.”

The Syrian expert also added the security forces have also seized Israeli-, European- and American-made weapons.

“The Syrian army also uncovered tunnels and equipments there,” he told to the agency, “advanced Israeli, European, and American arms that have not yet been tested in the countries of manufacture, in addition to Israeli grenades, night binoculars, and communication systems were confiscated by the security forces.”

Salim Harba however said the Syrian authorities are not planning to reveal all the obtained information now, but assured all the evidence is of high value.

“The Syrian security forces have documents and confessions that could harm everyone who conspired against Syria, and could make a security and political change, not just on the internal Syrian level, but also on the regional level,” he said.

The recent Stratfor leak and hacked email of the company’s director of analysis also suggest undercover NATO troops are already on the ground in Syria.

There have been previous allegations of a Western presence on the side of the rebels as 13 French officers were reportedly captured by the loyalist forces earlier in March.

President Bashar al-Assad has repeatedly claimed his regime is fighting not with peaceful protesters as claimed by the West, but with the military gangs supported by the West.

Western powers however have categorically denied any military involvement in Syrian internal conflict.

End of game in the Middle East

By Thierry Meyssan
Source: Voltaire Network
Although the armed clashes are not completely over in the beleaguered district of Homs and that the Syrian and Lebanese authorities have yet to inform public opinion of their recent actions, Thierry Meyssan appeared Monday night on the leading Russian television channel to make an initial assessment of the operations, providing first-hand information which he is sharing with the readers of Voltaire Network.
For eleven months, the Western powers and the Gulf States have lead a campaign to destabilize Syria. Several thousand mercenaries infiltrated the country. Recruited by agencies in Saudi Arabia and Qatar within the Sunni extremist community, they came to overthrow the “usurper Alawite” Bashar al-Assad and impose a Wahhabi-inspired dictatorship. They have at their disposal the most sophisticated military equipment, including night vision systems, communication centers, and robots for urban warfare. Supported secretly by the NATO powers, they also have access to vital military information, including satellite images of Syrian troop movements, and telephone interceptions.
This has been falsely portrayed to the Western public as a political revolution crushed in blood by a ruthless dictatorship. Of course, this lie has not been universally accepted. Russia, China and the Latin American and Caribbean member states of ALBA repudiate it. They each have a historical background that allows them to readily grasp what is at stake. The Russians are thinking of Chechnya, the Chinese of Xinjiang, and the Latin Americans of Cuba and Nicaragua. In all these cases, beyond ideological or religious appearances, the methods of destabilization by the CIA were the same.

The strangest thing about this situation is to observe the Western media deluding themselves that the Salafists, Wahhabis and Al-Qaeda fighters are motivated by democratic principles, while they continue to demand on Saudi and Qatari satellite airwaves the head of the Alawi heretics and the Arab League observers. It matters little if Abdel Hakim Belhaj (number 2 of Al-Qaeda and current military governor of Tripoli, Libya) came personally to install his men in northern Syria, and Ayman Al-Zawahiri (current leader of Al-Qaeda since the official death of Osama bin Laden) has called for a jihad against Syria: the Western press pursues its romantic dream of a liberal revolution.
