DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United States and more than two dozen allies are gearing up for the largest naval exercise ever in the Middle East focused on countering the threat of anti-ship mines. A wary Iran says it will be watching closely.

The maneuvers starting next week are the latest flexing of American military muscle in and around the Persian Gulf, even as Washington tries to convince ally Israel that diplomacy and sanctions aimed at pressuring Iran to scale back its nuclear program need more time to work.

U.S. Navy officials insist that the anti-mine exercise is not about any specific country or a response to Iranian threats to shut the narrow Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf, the route for one-fifth of the world’s oil.

But the drills will likely be perceived around the world as a challenge to Tehran, which has thousands of anti-ship mines it could deploy to disrupt shipping and drive up oil prices in response to any airstrike on its uranium enrichment facilities. The U.S. and several of its allies accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, but Iran says its atomic program is solely for peaceful purposes.

‘‘This is one of many engagements conducted alongside regional defense forces,’’ said Lt. Greg Raelson, a spokesman for the Navy’s 5th Fleet. ‘‘Freedom of navigation through international waterways is critical to the international community and to nations in the region, including Iran.’’

The exercises, which will focus on a hypothetical extremist organization, are a way to boost cooperation with foreign navies and prepare to deal with threats that could block vital trade routes at sea, American officials say.

Raelson noted that waterborne bombs have struck a number of ships in the region in recent years, including a mysterious blast that damaged the Japanese oil tanker M. Star as it entered the Strait of Hormuz in 2010. An obscure al-Qaida-linked group later claimed responsibility for that attack.

Even so, the maneuvers carry an implicit message for Tehran.

Hidden Agenda Behind The Libya Conflagration

Death and Destruction in the Name of Free Speech

Nothing is so destructive and lethal as the form of Free Speech practiced by the Western mainstream media (MSM). Truly, if ever there was a global scourge that threatens the very fabric of civil society, the MSM’s version of Free Speech is it.

What part of their ongoing multi-century crime spree does the MSM not get?!

Do they really think they can get away with so much ill-intentioned word merchandizing?

All actions and words do have a karmic slack associated with them. Sometimes the blowback is immediate and dramatic; other times it is slow to come and imperceptible. However, there will always be a meting out of the proper karmic consequences (or benefits). Regardless of the perceived effects of our actions and words, they will always produce a reaction within the universe of thought and form. ALWAYS!

Which brings us to the little matter facing the USA because of a certain film that was produced within its borders. Let’s see, we have one dead ambassador and 3 other dead US personnel, two destroyed embassies and lots of explaining to do to the world community.

NATO Member Turkey Harboring Terrorist Army

After losing a fighter jet earlier this month while conducting a high-speed, low altitude invasion of Syria’s airspace, Turkey has now pledged to treat any Syrian operation along its borders as a military threat.

By Tony Cartalucci, Land Destroyer

“Turkey’s warning could tilt the dynamic along the border, which has become an incubator for Syrian antigovernment rebels who are seeking increased levels of international support. Turkey’s pledge to respond to aggression from Syrian forces could help the rebel Free Syrian Army by deterring Syrian forces from attacking—or else result in Turkish retaliation for cross-border attacks on rebels,” reported the Wall Street Journal in their article, “Turkey Warns of Retaliation Against Syria.” This encapsulates the brazen warping of logic applied by NATO aggressors as they seek to perpetuate the bloodbath and destabilization caused by their own proxy forces, primarily harbored, armed, and deployed from NATO member Turkey.

Syrian Rebels are Al Qaeda Terrorists

By US officials’ own admissions, since 2007 a combined US-Israeli-Saudi effort to assemble and deploy against Syria and Iran an army of sectarian extremists drawn from the ranks of Al Qaeda and its affiliates has been underway. In Seymour Hersh’s 2007 New Yorker article, “The Redirection,” he reported, “The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.”

Within Hersh’s report, not only is this army of fanatical terrorists described as being fully backed by the West in order to create a sectarian bloodbath to be used to achieve Western foreign policy objectives, but it was fully anticipated that this army would commit abhorrent atrocities, particularly against ethnic and religious minorities throughout the region. In particular former CIA agent Robert Baer in Lebanon warned about the fate of Christians located in the region.

Today, Baer’s warning has manifested itself in a genocidal campaign against Syria’s Christians increasingly more difficult for the Western media to hide. This is confirmed by LA Times’ “Church fears ‘ethnic cleansing’ of Christians in Homs, Syria,” and more recently in USA Today’s distorted, but still telling, “Christians in Syria live in uneasy alliance with Assad, Alawites.”

Turkey’s Erdogan Continues Provocations Against Syria in Service of Gulf Monarchies

By Webster Griffin Tarpley

Political analyst says a Turkish fighter jet that recently violated Syrian airspace and was downed by Damascus was a ploy to provoke the country.

The comment comes as Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his government would retaliate against Damascus over the downing of the Turkish fighter jet by the Syrian army.

Syria on Friday said that a Turkish warplane, a F-4 Phantom, was shot down in Syrian territorial waters west of the village of Om al-Tuyour in Lattakia Province, 10 kilometers from the beach.

Syrian military stressed on Friday that it had engaged the jet in the Syrian airspace “according to the laws that govern such situations.”

Erdogan said Turkey’s military jet violated the Syrian airspace for a short time and “by mistake” and it was shot down by Syria “without a single warning.”

Meanwhile, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has condemned the downing of the Turkish plane as ‘unacceptable,’ and promised full support for Ankara. Turkey had called for a meeting of the alliance to discuss the incident.

Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi on Monday warned NATO against forging any anti-Syria conspiracy on the downing of the Turkish fighter jet.

Press TV has conducted an interview with author and historian, Webster Griffin Tarpley, to further discuss the issue.

Gulf of Tonkin Redux?

By Stephen LENDMAN

Lyndon Johnson wanted war on Vietnam and got it.

The August 1964 false flag Gulf of Tonkin incident initiated full-scale conflict after Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.

War was authorized without declaring it.

It’s an American tradition. Big lies launch wars. Manufactured pretexts initiate them. Mass killing and destruction follow.

One nation after another is ravaged. Syria’s next, then Iran, followed by other states on Washington’s hit list.

On June 22, Turkey provocatively flew two warplanes at low altitude over Syrian airspace. It wanted a response and got it.

Downed Turkish Jet Will Be Used By West to Draw Turkey Into Bilderberg and NATO’s Plan

By Patrick HENNINGSEN, Infowars.com

Details regarding today’s reports of a Turkish Jet which lost contact with air traffic control over Syrian airspace and crashed into Syrian territorial waters, are still unclear.

It is not known whether the jet was shot down or not.

According RT, Turkish President Erdogan “did not confirm reports that Damascus had apologized for shooting down the plane”. Turkey has so far refrained from giving any information the two pilots, who are said to have been rescued earlier. More information is expected to be released after a security meeting scheduled for this evening.

If the West and NATO is to enforce a Libya-style ‘no fly-zone’ in Syria, then Turkey would be the tool of choice to run such an operation.  In addition, the Syrian Air Force is considering bombing raids as part of their fight against insurgents and al-Qaida terrorists north of Aleppo – who have been using Turkey as refuge from the Syrian Army.

Syrian National Council representative Bassma Kodmani was in attendance at this year’s Bilderberg Meeting in Chantilly, VA, another indication that the West’s plans for Syrian regime change and later balkanization – have already been signed off. Kodmani is the Head of Foreign Affairs with the SNC, a coalition of Syrian opposition groups based in Istanbul, Turkey. Clearly, an external agenda is set regarding the destiny of that country.
