US to dispatch 200 troops to Jordan-Syria border

The United States is to send 200 troops to Jordan in the coming weeks for military operations along Syrian border.

A Jordanian minister announced the move on Wednesday.

“They will be arriving in the next few weeks…to increase the level of preparedness and defense capabilities of the kingdom in light of the continued deterioration in the Syrian situation,” Mohammad al-Momani, Minister of State for Information, told Reuters.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington that the move aimed at “boosting defenses” over the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Hagel said the deployment would include specialists in intelligence, logistics and operations.

On March 22, US President Barack Obama and Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II agreed to stand united against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is fighting foreign-sponsored militants.

Obama promised military aid for the Syrian opposition, saying the US “will provide resources, training and capacity for the Syrian opposition.”

The US president also pledged 200 million dollars to King Abdullah to deal with Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Amman allows US to train Syrian rebels on Jordanian soil

Members of the terrorist Free Syrian Army near the crisis-hit Syrian city of Dara’a

Jordan has reportedly given the green light to the US to train and prepare members of the terrorist Free Syrian Army on its soil to attack strategic targets inside Syria

Informed sources say Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II has allowed the US troops to train hundreds of members of the so-called Free Syrian Army along with Jordanian forces in order to prepare them for participation in an international military drill in the country.

According to the sources, the drill, involving 12 countries and led by the US, focuses on instructing terrorist groups fighting against the Syrian government on ways to attack strategic targets in Syria, including the country’s missile arsenal, which is a cause for concern for Israel.

US intelligence sources had earlier said that the Americans are training Jordan’s specials forces for what they describe as ” worst case scenario” in order for them to gain control of Syria’s weapons arsenal.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011 and many people, including hundreds of security forces, have been killed in the unrest.

While the West and the Syrian opposition say the government is responsible for the violence, Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest and insists that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

Exclusive: New U.S. Commando Team Operating Near Iran

By Spencer Ackerman for DANGER ROOM

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran are at a high point, as the Islamic Republic threatens to close off a vital waterway and two U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups sit in the seas off the Iranian coast. But across the Persian Gulf, the U.S. has a previously unacknowledged weapon in reserve: a new special operations team.

Danger Room has confirmed with the U.S. Special Operations Command that a new elite commando team is operating in the region. The primary, day-to-day mission of the team, known as Joint Special Operations Task Force-Gulf Cooperation Council, is to mentor military units belonging to the U.S.’ oil-rich Arab allies, who collectively are known as the Gulf Cooperation Council. Those Arab states consider Iran to be their primary foreign threat.

The task force provides “highly trained personnel that excel in uncertain environments,” Maj. Rob Bockholt, a spokesman for special-operations forces in the Mideast, tells Danger Room, and “seeks to confront irregular threats.” The U.S. military has not previously acknowledged the existence of the team, known as JSOTF-GCC for short.

The unit began its existence in mid-2009 — around the time that the Iranian leadership rejected President Obama’s offer of a new diplomatic dialogue and underwent a serious internal challenge to its legitimacy from Green Movement protesters. But whatever the task force does about Iran — or might do in the future — is a sensitive subject with the military.

“It would be inappropriate to discuss operational plans regarding any particular nation,” Bockholt says about Iran.

US Troops, ships quietly surge into Middle East

The Pentagon has quietly shifted combat troops and warships to the Middle East after the top American commander in the region warned that he needed additional forces to deal with Iran and other potential threats, U.S. officials said.

Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, who heads U.S. Central Command, won White House approval for the deployments late last year after talks with the government in Baghdad broke down over keeping U.S. troops in Iraq, but the extent of the Pentagon moves is only now becoming clear.

Officials said the deployments are not meant to suggest a buildup to war, but rather are intended as a quick-reaction and contingency force in case a military crisis erupts in the standoff with Tehran over its suspected nuclear weapons program.

The Pentagon has stationed nearly 15,000 troops in Kuwait, adding to a small contingent already there. The new units include two Army infantry brigades and a helicopter unit – a substantial increase in combat power after nearly a decade in which Kuwait chiefly served as a staging area for supplies and personnel heading to Iraq.

The Pentagon also has decided to keep two aircraft carriers and their strike groups in the region.

Earlier this week, the American carrier Carl Vinson joined the carrier Stennis in the Arabian Sea, giving commanders major naval and air assets in case Iran carries out its recent threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint in the Persian Gulf, where one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments passes.

Obama sending US Forces to Libya

On January 13, Cynthia McKinney (photo) said Obama has 12,000 US troops in Malta heading for Libya.

By Stephen Lendman for Mathaba

Throughout 2011, Washington and rogue NATO partners committed Nuremberg level crimes. They made Libya a charnel house.

Terror bombing caused massacres, mass destruction and human misery. Libya remains wracked by violence, instability, and illegitimate governance.

Occupation, colonization, pillaging and exploitation intend raping Libya for profit.

America’s Marines Hymn begins with the lines, “From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.”

If Malta positioned troops are marines, they’ll return for the first time in over 200 years.

Mc Kinney said:

“The NTC (National Transitional Council) not only has to contend with a vibrant, well-financed grassroots-supported resistance, but the various militias….are also fighting each other.”

“I believe this ‘sociocide’ of Libyan society (like in Iraq, Afghanistan and other US war theaters) is part of a carefully crafted plan of destabilization that ultimately serves US imperial interests and those of a Zionist state and its US agents who are bent on Greater Israel’s suzerainty over huge swaths of Arabic-speaking populations.”

Reports from Misrata say Apache helicopters slaughtered rebel insurgents trying to scale Brega oil platforms.

The Next War on Washington’s Agenda

By Paul Craig Roberts

Only the blind do not see that the US government is preparing to attack Iran. According to Professor Michel Chossudovsky, “Active war preparations directed against Iran (with the involvement of Israel and NATO) were initiated in May 2003.” http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=28542

Washington has deployed missiles directed at Iran in its oil emirate puppet states, Oman and the UAE, and little doubt in the other US puppet states in the Middle East. Washington has beefed up Saudi Arabia’s jet fighter force. Most recently, Washington has deployed 9,000 US troops to Israel to participate in “war games” designed to test the US/Israeli air defense system. As Iran represents no threat unless attacked, Washington’s war preparations signal Washington’s intention to attack Iran.

Another signal that Washington has a new war on its agenda is the raised level of Washington’s rhetoric and demonization of Iran. Judging by polls Washington’s propaganda that Iran is threatening the US by developing a nuclear weapon has met with success. Half of the American public support a military attack on Iran in order to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability. Those of us who are trying to awaken our fellow citizens start from a deficit that the minds of half of the US population are under Big Brother’s control.

As the International Atomic Energy Agency’s reports from its inspectors on the ground in Iran have made clear for years, there is no evidence that Iran has diverted any enriched uranium from its nuclear energy program. The shrill hype coming from Washington and from the neoconservative media is groundless. It is the same level of lie as Washington’s claim that Saddam Hussein in Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Every US soldier who died in that war died in behalf of a lie. Continue reading

Hundreds of US-NATO Soldiers Arrive and Begin Operations on the Jordan-Syria Border

BFP Exclusive: Foreign Troops Begin to Spread Near the Villages of Al-Mafraq

Update 1: Today at 12:00 P.M. we contacted DOD Press Office via two voicemail messages and one e-mail asking for comment(s) on this story. As of 6:00 P.M. EST we have not heard back.

Update 2: Another journalist with a major mainstream media publication was told by his editors that there would be no coverage or follow up on these developments.

According to first-hand accounts and reports provided to Boiling Frogs Post by several sources in Jordan, during the last few hours foreign military groups, estimated at hundreds of individuals, began to spread near the villages of the north-Jordan city of “Al-Mafraq”, which is adjacent to the Jordanian and Syrian border.

According to one Jordanian military officer who asked to remain anonymous, hundreds of soldiers who speak languages other than Arabic were seen during the past two days in those areas moving back and forth in military vehicles between the King Hussein Air Base of al-Mafraq (10 km from the Syrian border), and the vicinity of Jordanian villages adjacent to the Syrian border, such as village Albaej (5 km from the border), the area around the dam of Sarhan, the villages of Zubaydiah and al-Nahdah adjacent to the Syrian border.

Another report received from our source in Amman identified an additional US-NATO Command Center in “al-Houshah,’ a village near Mafraq.

Our Iraqi journalist source in London provided us with the following related information:

“Some of the US forces that left the Ain al-Assad Air base in Iraq last Thursday, did not come back to the USA or its base in Germany, but were transferred to Jordan during the evening hours.”

The above information was further corroborated by our correspondent and advisor Nizar Nayouf who interviewed an employee in the London-based office of Royal Jordanian Airlines:

“At least one US aircraft carrying military personnel landed in the Prince Hassan Air base located about 100 km to the east of the city of Al-Mafraq.”

Earlier last week, Jordanian news websites disclosed that “Western officials have requested the King to allow establishing an electronic spy station in the north of Jordan (near the Syrian border) in order to access the Syrian army and contact Syrian high-rank officers for convincing them to make a military coup or (at least) rebel against the regime”.

Nizar Nayouf, BFP advisor and correspondent on Syria in London, had the following statement on Al-Mafraq:

The al-Mafraq air base, which now includes Air Force Academy, was a starting point for “conspiratorial activities” by Jordan, The UK and Israel against Syria in the past, particularly in the 1960s. In September 1968, a Syrian commando Major, Salim Hatoom, who fled to Jordan with a number of officers after a failed coup attempt, established a camp from which he started a rebel military against the then left-wing government of Syria under president Nureddin al-Atassi and Salah Jadid. By the end of 1970s and early 1980s, the Syrian Islamic Brotherhood and their military wing “At-Taleeah al-Islamiyyah al-Muqatilah” (the Islamic Militant Vanguard) used the same base for its military struggle against president Hafez a-Assad regime, in which they were being trained by the Jordanian and Israeli intelligence agents, and cars were being bombed before they were sent to the streets of Syrian cities for the killing of innocents and undermining state facilities.”

Mr. Nayouf went on to emphasize the irony of the situation:

I guess history repeats itself but as farce…Last spring, that tens of Syrian soldiers, who fled to Jordan, were transferred to a camp west of the Jordanian city of “Salt”, in which officers from Israeli military intelligence (AMAN) began the investigation with them under the supervision of the Jordanian military intelligence. This was to extract information from them on issues related to the development of the Syrian army, weapons and training, especially after 2006.

We contacted our expert sources on US media and intelligence-military and were told that the US media has been told not to report on this latest development until Tuesday, December 13. Boiling Frogs Post is the first news website to report on these latest developments.

This story is developing and we await further details and confirmation from our sources in Turkey and Jordan. For additional Boiling Frogs Post Syria coverage see here and here.

Nizar Nayouf and James Corbett contributed to this exclusive Boiling Frogs Post report.
