France called off attack on Syria at last minute

Hours before fighter jets were set to launch, French President Francois Hollande received call from Obama informing him of delay, French magazine reveals.

French fighter jets were ready to take-off for an attack in Syria on August 31, but were called off only hours away from launch time, a French weekly magazine has revealed on Sunday.

France’s president, Francois Hollande called off the attack after a call with U.S. President Barack Obama, who decided that same day he would seek approval from Congress before carrying out a military response over chemical weapons use in Syria.

According to the report in Nouvel Observateur, Rafale-class aircraft were prepared to launch as officials laid the groundwork for the attack with the French public. “Everything made us think that D-Day had arrived,” a French official is quoted as saying. “This incredible misunderstanding lasted until the end of the afternoon.”

Hollande was expected to approve the attack, planned for 3 A.M. local time, on Syria’s missile batteries and control and command centers of the country’s unit in charge of chemical weapons.

The only thing still standing in the way was the requisite green light from Obama, but the U.S. president changed his mind after consultation with his advisers.

Syria claims victory over US war rhetoric

Syrian Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badr al-Din Hassoun

Syrian Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badr al-Din Hassoun has said the US should accept Syria’s victory in the recent dispute between Washington and Damascus.

The Mufti of Syria said in response to statements of US President Barack Obama at a White House press conference on Syria, “Obama backed off of his decision. He must admit the victory of Syria.”

Referring to the US president’s decision to seek congressional approval for an attack on Syria – meaning that if an attack is launched it will take place only after Congress returns from recess on September 9 and states its support – the Mufti added that Syria was winning “thanks to its leader, its people and its army, and this proved that the issue is not one of ethnic groups, but of homeland, which does not to yield to anyone except Allah.”

Deputy Syrian Prime Minister Qadri Jamil also responded to the developments saying, “The Syrian army’s readiness is what warded off US aggression against Syria,” following US President Barack Obama’s decision to postpone the attack.

He added that the government is in a state of permanent alert and ready to respond to any aggression against the Syrian people.

According to Jamil, the Syrian government does not need chemical weapons and the Syrian people desire real change without external intervention.

Meanwhile, a member of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) warned that following Obama’s announcement, “If there is a postponement of (military) action, it will be an insult to the West in general and the US specifically.”

International debate is raging on fact-finding about an alleged chemical attack in Syria which US is using as pretext to bomb the Arab country.

The US has failed to provide evidence of its accusations against Syria while international condemnation grows against its military ambitions.

The US claims come as Syria has already provided UN with evidences on at least three chemical attacks carried out by US-backed militants near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Coup and counter-coup in Washington

General David Petraeus, former CIA director

By Webster Griffin Tarpley

Sometimes, generals purge politicians. In 1648, during the English Civil War, Colonel Pride and his troops removed those members of the Long Parliament who opposed military domination; the puppets who remained were called the Rump Parliament.

This year, a cabal of generals evidently believed it could secure the White House for Mitt Romney by staging the Benghazi incident and using it as the signal for a cold coup under cover of elections — probably including computer-generated election fraud — to bring down Obama. They guessed wrong.

Politicians sometimes purge generals. When the French Secret Army Organization (OAS) staged a putsch in Algiers in April 1961 to prevent the independence of Algeria, President de Gaulle had to round up and jail a number of generals and other officers. The Obama administration and its establishment controllers appear to be ousting a number of intelligence and military officials who took part in illegal operations to replace Obama with Romney. These sackings are being presented to the public under the guise of soap opera sexual infractions or expense account padding, in the hope of hiding some real mechanisms of power from the popular gaze. The outgoing US military cabal favors the extension of colonial wars, like those in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as an attack on Iran. Good riddance.

General Petraeus: Neocon Who Sought War with Iran

The most spectacular example is the fall of General David Petraeus, the CIA director, and one of the leading US advocates of an early war with Iran. The heads of several other rogue figures are rolling. The result is one of those rare moments when parts of the rogue network or invisible government can be observed by those who have enough knowledge to understand what they are seeing. But the firings have only scratched the surface.

The Romney backers were made up of neocons, Bush holdovers, and members of the Mormon Mafia in the intelligence community — a relatively narrow base. The Obama supporters were the Brzezinski-Nye soft power group and military opposed to the Iran war. The neocons and reactionary Mormons wanted to restore aggressive war and wholesale bombing as the preferred option for US foreign policy. Although they love drones and assassinations, they want to keep significant US conventional forces in the Middle East.  Continue reading

Iran’s Strategic Diplomatic Victory over the Washington-Israeli Axis: Its Larger Political Consequences

Both in terms of form and content the NAM meeting highlighted the superiority of Iran ’s diplomacy over and against Washington ’s bellicose posturing and improvised diversionary tactics.

By James Petras

Introduction

Iran chaired, hosted and led the recently rejuvenated Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting in Teheran, attended by delegates from 120 countries, including 31 heads of state and 29 foreign secretaries of state.  Even the United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, notorious mouthpiece of Washington , felt obligated to address, a forum attended by two-thirds of the member countries of the UN, despite State Department and Israeli objections. Any objective evaluation of the meeting, its venue, the attendance, resolutions and political impact leads to one paramount conclusion:  the NAM meeting was a strategic diplomatic victory for Iran and a major defeat for the US , Israel and the European Union.  The entire US-Israeli-EU diplomatic and propaganda effort to isolate and stigmatize Iran , especially over the past decade, was shredded.

The Politics of Attendance

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (R) welcomes Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (C) at the Presidential Palace in Tehran, Iran, 29 August 2012. Attendance by representatives of 120 countries demonstrates that Iran is not a ‘pariah state’; it is an accepted member of the international community. The presence of 60 heads of state and foreign secretaries demonstrates that Iran is considered a noteworthy and significant political actor, not a “terrorist state” to be isolated and shunned.  The proceedings, debates and discussions among and between the delegates and Iranian leaders convinced those attending that Teheran gives primacy to reasonable dialogue in resolving international conflicts. Syrian false flag planned?

A member of the foreign-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) takes aims with a sniper rifle at a checkpoint in the northern city of Aleppo on August 20, 2012

By Stephen Lendman

Never bet against Washington’s imperial plans. New tactics follow failed ones. Efforts to oust Bashar- al-Assad continue. Proxy killers can’t do it alone. They’re no match against Syria’s superior military strength. It’s committed to rout them.

Expect NATO intervention anytime or perhaps post-US November elections. Libya 2.0 looks increasingly likely. What better way to finesse it than by staging a false flag attack blamed on Assad.

America’s false flag history suggests it. In 1898, Spain was falsely accused of blowing up the USS Maine in Havana, Cuba harbor. The Spanish-American war followed.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt manipulated Japan to attack Pearl Harbor. South Korea was used to instigate war on the North. Lyndon Johnson wanted war on Vietnam and got it.  Continue reading

US-led Syria siege prelude to dividing entire Eurasia: Analyst

File photo shows insurgents preparing to move into Salahuddin district of the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo on August 9, 2012

The ultimate goal of the US-sponsored crisis in Syria is not simple regime change, but to divide the Arab republic as prelude to division of the entire Eurasia and maintaining US global primacy as a superpower.

“The US-sponsored siege of Syria is part of its attempts to divide Eurasia and maintain its global primacy as a superpower,” says columnist Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya in an article published on the Press TV website on Tuesday.

“Washington has no mercy on its friends or its foes either and countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia will eventually be used as cannon fodder,” the analyst added.

He noted that the US strategists want the area including the North Africa and Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia, and India to be turned into a black hole of fighting.  Continue reading

Continue reading

Chavez Announces “Immediate” Withdrawal from Inter-American Court of Human Rights

By RACHAEL BOOTHROYD

Liverpool, July 26th 2012 (Venezuelanalysis.com) – Following an announcement earlier in April that his government would be withdrawing from the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IAHRC), Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez confirmed on Tuesday that his administration would also no longer recognise the IAHRC’s sister organisation, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACrtHR) with “immediate” effect.

Both organisations are affiliate bodies of the Organization of the American States (OAS), with the commission recommending and submitting human rights cases to the court for review.

In a televised address to the public on Tuesday evening, the Venezuelan head of state confirmed the country’s exit from the human rights tribunal after accusing the body of “political manipulation” and attacking the South American nation for “daring to liberate” itself from Washington’s influence. US prodding Israel to attack Syria: Analyst

US President Barack Obama (R) shakes hands with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, March 5, 2012.

A political analyst says Washington is currently too bedeviled to directly engage in a military confrontation in Syria, so it has undertaken to goad “other sinister forces” such as Israel into attacking the Arab country.

“Although Washington seems to have decided to monitor from afar the developments in Syria without any military intervention by avoiding a Libya-style scenario, they are resorting by any means to expedite the collapse of [the Syrian President Bashar] Assad regime,” Dr. Ismail Salami wrote in an article on Press TV website.

The Iranian author said Washington, which has long “run out of novel ideas and well-wrought out plans” to further its objectives in the Middle East, has now clung to the “farcically banal excuse” of the Syrian regime’s alleged stockpile of chemical weapons. Continue reading

Washington’s Plan B For Syria

20120724-092704.jpg

By Stephen Lendman

Replacing independent governments with pro-Western puppets is official US policy. So is war on Islam.

After Soviet Russia dissolved, Muslims replaced communists as public enemy number one. Since the 1990s, millions were ruthlessly killed. Many more die daily. Dozens succumb every day in Syria. US-sponsored death squads murder them.

On July 20 or 21st, Ramadan began. It continues for 30 days until August 18. It’s a time for prayer, fasting, reflection, spiritual purification, self-sacrifice, charity, and forgiveness.

On July 20, Obama hypocritically “extend(ed) warmest wishes to” American and global Muslims. He wished them a “blessed month.” He did it despite official US policy to murder them. It doesn’t stop in deference to Ramadan, Christmas, or any other time of year.

He contemptuously expressed support for their determination to achieve “democracy,” “equality,” “justice,” and “universal rights.” He said his administration stands forthrightly with them.

He lied. He’s a serial liar. He’s also a war criminal multiple times over.

America deplores these values at home and abroad. It won’t tolerate them. They’re anathema to the nation’s imperium. It seeks unchallenged global dominance. Ravaging the world one country at a time or in multiples is policy to achieve it.

Plans to get Security Council authorization for war failed. Russia and China vetoed three resolutions. Vladimir Putin said no to Libya 2.0.
